Teachable is one of the major players when it comes to online course platforms.
In fact, I use Teachable on my niche website to host and sell online courses – it’s my recommended choice (I’m on their Basic plan).
If you’re interested in my thoughts on Teachable, then check out my Teachable review.
Teachable pricing comes in different packages to suit pretty much anyone’s needs.
Here, I will break down the different Teachable pricing plans available. I’ll explain what they include and, most importantly, give you guidance on the correct plan for you.
Table of Contents
Teachable pricing: Overview
Teachable has four pricing plans available:
- Free – $0
- Basic – $29 per month (annual billing) or $39 per month (monthly billing)
- Professional – $99 per month (annual billing) or $119 per month (monthly billing)
- Business – $249 per month (annual billing) or $299 per month (monthly billing)

The yearly cost of plans
You will notice that the annual billing plans are a little bit cheaper than their monthly billing plans.
If you can afford it, it is best to take an annual billing plan to save more money over the year.
For example, if you go for the Professional plan with annual billing, you will save $240 a year compared with monthly billing for the same plan!
The table below gives a breakdown of the cost of each plan over a 12-month period.
Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing | Saving |
Free | $0 | $0 | $0 |
Basic | $468 | $348 | $120 |
Professional | $1,428 | $1,188 | $240 |
Business | $3,588 | $2,988 | $600 |
Teachable pricing: Free plan
Price: $0
Transaction fee: $1 + 10% of course price (for a course that sells for $100, Teachable will take $11 of this)
The great thing is that Teachable has a Free plan – woohoo!
This plan is great to start making your course without having to pay any monthly fees.
The major drawback to the Free plan is that you can only have 10 students on an online course – this is not many at all!
As well as that, your school is noticeably associated with Teachable, ie there is no custom domain support.
What I mean by that is the domain name will have ‘.teachable.com’ in it.
Plan features
The Free plan comes with all of the core features in Teachable.
The core features, that is those that are included in all plans, are…
- Unlimited video
- Unlimited courses
- Unlimited hosting
- Integrated payment processing
- Student management
- Lecture comments
- Basic quizzes
- No fees on free courses
- Handle VAT payments
Who is the Free plan for?
Teachable’s Free plan is perfect for those just beginning their online course journey and have little to no student following.
The main attraction is that it is free to create an account and begin forming your online course.
However, there isn’t much scope for growth considering there is a 10 student limit on courses with this plan.
Once your course becomes established, it is worth looking at their Basic plan.
Teachable pricing: Basic plan
Price: $29 per month (annual billing) or $39 per month (monthly billing)
Transaction fee: 5% of course price (for a course that sells for $100, Teachable will take $5 of this)
Well, hello there unlimited students! Yep, Teachable’s Basic plan comes with no restrictions on the number of student enrolments.
Other major features of the Basic plan include custom domain support and the ability to add coupon codes.
The option to add a custom domain is the first step to distance yourself from the Teachable brand. So, instead of your school having the domain ‘myschool.teachable.com’ you could have just ‘myschool.com’.
To take advance of this, you need to purchase a custom domain from a domain name provider – these are super cheap (<$20 per year).
I use and recommend SiteGround for purchasing a custom domain.
Coupon codes are also a great addition to the Basic plan and are a great way to sell your online course. With these, you can create your own codes for students to get discounts off your course.
Plan features
The Basic plan comes with all of the core features as well as…
- Unlimited students
- 5% transaction fee
- Custom domain support (additional domain fee may apply)
- Coupon codes
- Instant payouts (if you set up Teachable Payments)
- Multiple admin profiles (2 admins)
- Course creator training (via the TeachableU hub)
- Drip course content
- Email marketing functions
- Third-party integrations (via Zapier)
- Product support
Who is the Basic plan for?
The Basic plan is for creators who are taking their online course more seriously, compared with the Free plan, and want to take home more profit by having lower transaction fees.
The features of unlimited students and coupon codes gives you the potential to create a fully established online school.
Also, the ability to add a custom domain means you can remove the majority of the Teachable association – thus, increasing your brand appeal.
Teachable pricing: Professional plan
Price: $99 per month (annual billing) or $119 per month (monthly billing)
Transaction fee: 0%
The main attraction of the Professional plan – the most popular plan according to Teachable – is that there are zero transaction fees. This means that Teachable will not take any fees from any course sales (remember processing fees still apply).
Other standout features include affiliate marketing capabilities, course completion certificates, so students can get a keepsake when they complete a course, and the ability to grade student quizzes.
There is also an unbranded website. In the Free and Basic plans, there is a ‘powered by Teachable’ message at the bottom of the school’s pages – this will be removed in their Professional plan.
You also get more advanced capabilities such as the ability to customize the look of your school by tweaking bits of code.
A live chat system is also available so you have the added instant support from the guys at Teachable, should you ever need it.
Plan features
The Professional plan includes all of the core and Basic plan features, as well as…
- Zero transaction fees
- Graded quizzes
- Additional admin profiles (5 admins)
- Course completion certificates
- Priority product support (live chat)
- Unbranded website
- Advanced theme customization
- Advanced reports
- Course compliance
- Enable affiliate marketing of your course
Who is the Professional plan for?
The Professional plan is aimed at those who have an established online brand and a community of students.
With this plan the online school is fully white labelled meaning it looks completely bespoke (although there are some pages that still require the use of the ‘.teachable’ domain, such as payment screens).
Teachable pricing: Business plan
Price: $249 per month (annual billing) or $299 per month (monthly billing)
Transaction fee: 0%
The Business plan is Teachable’s most premium pricing plan – you get absolutely everything included.
Compared with the Professional plan, there is the ability to add up to 20 admins to your school and bulk import students!
These added features may not seem to justify the price different from $99 (Professional) to $249 (Business), but they are aimed at those wanting to create large online schools hosting a variety of courses.
Plan features
The Business plan includes all of the features in the Professional plan, as well as…
- Additional admin profiles (20 admins)
- Manual student imports
- Bulk student enrolments
- Custom user roles
- Group coaching calls
Who is the Business plan for?
The Business plan is aimed at just that – Businesses. Those that are going to have hundreds to thousands of students and need a team of admins to facilitate their learning. You could create your own Udemy-styled platform with this plan.
Entrepreneurs will see this plan as overkill for them and should stick with their Profesional plan instead.
Wrapping up
With this overview of Teachable’s pricing plans, you should have a better idea of the plan that is most suited for you.
If you’re just starting out creating an online course, go for their Free plan and upgrade to their Basic plan if you plan to take it more seriously.
If you want the best features for your money, then the Professional plan is probably the best option. Unlimited everything and zero transaction fees are the main attraction here.
